Our love for music grew stronger over the years. We wanted more avenues to express ourselves through music and so to make our voices heard we created a unique musical band called JIGRI. JIGRI which means close friendship aims at bringing people closer -to each other and to their environment.

Context

We have found theatre and music to be effective methods of reaching out to people from different walks of life. Being supporters of various movements such as the Narmada Bachao Andolan and Bhopal campaign, we realized how music plays an intrinsic role in binding people together in their struggle to achieve a common vision. The power of songs from these movements left a strong impression on us. We started by singing with people staging protests against Dow chemicals and the Narmada Dam at Jantar Mantar. We learnt some great soul stirring songs here, such as:

Sau main sattar aadmi filhaal jab nashaad hain
Dil pe rakh kar haath kahiye desh kya azaad hai…………

Mandir Masjid Girja ghar ne baant diya bhagwaan ko
Dharti Baanti sagar baanta mat baanto insaan ko…………
