In the current age of Development and Globalization, our 'choices' continue to be those as defined by the consumption model led by the global market forces. Concerns for environment and climate change have dwindled between dispersed efforts towards responsible and sustainable lifestyles by various civil society groups and the larger economic needs. For development to be sustainable it must integrate environmental stewardship, economic development and the well-being of all people—not just for today but for countless generations to come. Young people have an important role today as active citizens and tomorrow as leaders of social change. The involvement of today's youth in environment and development decision-making and in the implementation of programs is critical to the long-term. Influence engages in an attitudinal, structural, and cultural process whereby young people gain the ability, authority, and agency to make decisions and implement change in their own lives and the development process of the society.
