The Climate Change Champions Programme is the first of its kind initiative to encourage the Youth in Pakistan and India to take up and execute projects on and around Climate Change.

Context

Most of us know that Plastic is choking our rivers, but do not take that small step in reducing use of such plastics; we applaud efforts taken by others to cycle their way to work and back, but would much rather just drive our cars around. We need to wake up and take full responsibility of the Air, Water, Land and Habitat that keeps us all alive, we need to Act and Participate towards a stable Environment.

The 3C Programme recognizes the limitless agency and potential that University students have in making positive changes on the critical issue of Climate Change. The Programme enables the Youth to take action, as well as target other youth in their cities to redeem some of the harm we have all caused to the environment, thereby undoing some of the immanent harm that it will causes.

Approach and Strategy

• Youth Engagement

The 3C Programme gives a space and scope to students at the University level to Collaborate, Network and Ideate on issues of Climate Change. Delhi in India and Lahore (to be confirmed) in Pakistan will host a group students who voluntarily come together to work on any aspect of Climate Change and its consequences.

• Awareness on Climate Change

The spine of the entire programme is the urgent need to spread knowledge of Climate Change, and how our actions are responsible for the phenomenon. The Youth groups that are formed in both the cities will work towards spreading mass consciousness about the effects of Climate Change, in its various manifestations. The outreach and scope of the Programme thus spreads much beyond the cities of operation.

• Advocacy and Action
Creation of relevant Action Projects that address local climactic and environmental issues of the countries, created, managed and executed by the students themselves. This approach of region centric indigenous youth action will ensure the sustainability and popularity of the Programme, besides ensuring the realization of an Environmentally Stable future.

• Cultural Exchange

The Climate Change Champions, besides focusing on the issue of Climate Change, also addresses issues of Peace Building and Harmony through the Cultural Exchange that the Programme entails for the student volunteers. The programme encourages the youth of the two nations to shed the perceptual boundaries of the ‘other’ and learn of the Ecology and Sociology of the River Systems in the countries.
