The booming growth of malls, soaring flyovers, speeding automobiles, Delhi Metro and the 2010 Games have left Delhi gasping for breath. The facts are really disturbing:
• There is just 1 tree for every 350 people in Delhi.
• The state’s forest and tree cover is just a miniscule 10.2% against the required 33%
• More than 35000 trees have been cut in the last few years to make way for new construction.
• South Delhi, which earlier was known for its greenery has gone through massive tree felling drives. Sunder Nursery which is home to 114 different species of trees will soon be demolished for Delhi’s first tunnel road.
As a response to such environmentally destructive activities and as an attempt to save the city’s green cover, Monsoon Wooding is a campaign that we run annually during the Monsoon season (July – September).
Here is what we do-
• Plantation- Plant tress ‘wherever' possible
• Distribution- Gift trees to ‘everyone' possible
• Awareness- Spreading awareness on the importance of trees and its interconnectedness with various elements of life,
• Engagement- Positively engage ‘as many’ as possible.
